Righter: Keeping the next generation in Illinois is key
Springfield, IL – State Sen. Dale Righter (R-Mattoon) issued the following reaction in response to Gov. Bruce Rauner’s State of the State Address Jan. 31.
“A key problem is good families and hardworking and talented people are moving out of Illinois at a record pace and moving to places like Indiana, Wisconsin, or other Midwestern states – frankly anywhere but Illinois. They are going there for better jobs and a brighter future.
“That’s the problem. The answer – real reform. Workers’ compensation reform will help create jobs. Property tax relief will help working families. Enacting a fair way to draw district maps can end the ‘Chicago Democrat Machine’ that has wreaked havoc in Springfield and derailed the state’s future for too long.
“We can build off some good bi-partisan victories from last year like education funding reform, criminal justice reform, and passing a balanced budget. But lots more needs to happen to solve our states problems. Working together – as we have done in the past – is how we do it.”
